Solar Powered Battery Chargers

With the current hubbub of an environmentalist movement, solar energy has had some very interesting advancements. More recently solar powered batter chargers have come into the market to give going green a more consumer personalized experience.

Solar powered battery chargers are now available market wide to everyone and anyone who wants one, such as the Solio Solar Charger for iPods, cellphones, PDAs and even GPS. These nifty chargers can fit in your pocket and can be ‘charged’ by the sun or an electrical outlet in your home (which is a bit of a cheat but can be handy).

Prices can be fair if they are made by a sole-proprietor who makes these things in their basement then sells them online can be about $20-$30. However If you’re searching for big name brand material such as apple’s Solio you’ll be looking at approximately $80-$109. Both paths are safe routes, however I will personally trust apple to make something that won’t fail. Although iPods and MacBooks have their problems from time to time, they just work. When dealing with a charger made by someone, it will generally be flimsy and require more caution with storage and use.

Changing to these solar powered battery chargers, one can cut down on the amount of electricity used in your household. In turn this will lower the amount of fossil fuels used or nuclear waste created. Solar energy is a very important player to our transition to a greener future and an overall better environment. However switching to just solar powered energy chargers isn’t enough. In fact more needs to be done, such as harnessing wind energy, hydropower, ethanol, and other types of alternative fuels. However large strides can’t be taken without small steps taken first and one way to take a small step is to start using these consumer based products for a greener tomorrow.
